When he first debuted, he was part of the Strawberry Shortcake collection of characters, he was a boy. He appears in Big Apple City as a boy that is shown as berry intelligent and scientific. He also appears in the book, "The Adventures of Strawberry Shortcake and her friends". Then suddenly with no real explanation they came out with a girl Plum Puddin' in "Strawberry Shortcake's Baby without a name", in 1984, then also in, "Strawberry Shortcake Meets the Berrykins " Movie, in 1985. They began to sell Plum as a girl doll, never creating a boy Plum doll version. They only made Huckleberry as a boy doll pal of the characters. Plum Puddin' appears in several of the printed items early in the Strawberry Shortcakes beginnings, on cards, wrapping paper, and some games mostly. There are other things such as frames, ceramics, and misc. items here and there, that have his boy image on them. But for the most part, he was slowly disappeared from existence after the girl version was established. Some rumors were that they felt Plum would do better as a girl in doll sales. In my opinions, I think they dropped Huck from the doll line and decided to make Plum into a girl doll. You will notice that after the first 2 lines of dolls, that they did not make any boy at all except for Lem, of Lem and Aida for the Party Pleasers ,(Housewarming Surprise movie). They dropped Huck and Made Plum into a girl. We can all jump to our own conclusions. It is definitely curious as to why it happened. I think it's kind of neat that we have both a boy and girl version of Plum. This is what inspired my whole "Boys -n- Berries" custom doll series <3 All in all my favorite character is Plum Puddin'. He is the name sake of my studio after all :)
