The History of Plum's Place Custom Paradise
Plum's Place began about 18 years ago with my very first custom SSC doll which was a baby version of Plum Puddin' with glasses Back then I didn't even have a camera so I could place the doll facing downward toward the glass of my scanner.I used to place a box with a white back ground and vuala I had an image of my creations to share with my friends..Below are a few of my earlier custom creations including the first one I ever made Baby Plum Puddin' ....
I shared some of these with friends in my doll forums.Back then it was a Yahoo email messaging groups.I had a group that I hosted called Strawberry Chat. When I shared the images with my group everyone was very encouraging to make them for sale.I originally started to make them for fun. But now I could do something I really loved to do for profit. .Isn't that the American dream? Back then it was around mid 1997 I was 22. I ran into one of the only pictures i still have of me with one of my earlier custom dolls. Here it is below.....
I posted several custom dolls on Ebay and the began to sell I received emails from folks asking me if I could make them all kinds of different dolls.I would write down what was wanted and made them one by one.As time went by I saw the need for a camera so I purchased a small digital HP camera. It was about 5 pixels. That was a lot back them (don't laugh lol ) I also realized that after all the work I put into these dolls that I didn't want them to get ruined or full of dust as they were being displayed by the person who bought it.I came up with a concept to create custom made boxes to display my creations and protect the dolls from the elements they are exposed to on display. My first box was just white with no artwork. It was kind of lame and boring. Continuing to pursue my desire to go to the next level I experimented with different box concepts. My first attempt at images on a box was cut out art work glued to the outside of the box later on See images below for the development stages of our custom boxes & Packaging .I think we've come a long way from our 1997 box..Take a look
On August 7 2000 I listed Leia Berry with Java on Ebay for auction. I received so many inquires about this doll and the most requests for recreations of her and the packaging. I received an email a few weeks after the doll sold from Jennifer Bowles (yes from the books The Cream of Strawberry Shortcake Collectibles & More and Strawberry Shortcake Collectibles) She asked me if I would allow her to feature Leia Berry doll in the September 2000 edition of the Strawberryland Gazette, I said yes of course!. I was and still am so honored to have been a part of that excellent newsletter. Below is a scan of the article...

and the berry fun goes on .......
If you are the owner of one of my older custom dolls I would love to see them. Please feel free to send me images of them on display. I would love to see them. I have plans for some new doll concepts. Send me your ideas. I will try to make them happen. It takes me a little longer than before to make the dolls. I have a beautiful family I take care of during the day so my creating time is limited to about two day. I like to take my time and do things right. I promise it will be worth the wait.! There may be a few surveys going up from time to time to see what doll you all would like for me to create next. Please fill in the survey. You're idea might be my next creation. Until next time, have a Berry Happy Day!
