When he first debuted, he was part of the Strawberry Shortcake collection of characters, he was a boy. He appears in Big Apple City as a boy that is shown as berry intelligent and scientific. He also appears in the book, "The Adventures of Strawberry Shortcake and her friends". Then suddenly with no real explanation they came out with a girl Plum Puddin' in "Strawberry Shortcake's Baby without a name", in 1984, then also in, "Strawberry Shortcake Meets the Berrykins " Movie, in 1985. They began to sell Plum as a girl doll, never creating a boy Plum doll version. They only made Huckleberry as a boy doll pal of the characters. Plum Puddin' appears in several of the printed items early in the Strawberry Shortcakes beginnings, on cards, wrapping paper, and some games mostly. There are other things such as frames, ceramics, and misc. items here and there, that have his boy image on them. But for the most part, he was slowly disappeared from existence after the girl version was established. Some rumors were that they felt Plum would do better as a girl in doll sales. In my opinions, I think they dropped Huck from the doll line and decided to make Plum into a girl doll. You will notice that after the first 2 lines of dolls, that they did not make any boy at all except for Lem, of Lem and Aida for the Party Pleasers ,(Housewarming Surprise movie). They dropped Huck and Made Plum into a girl. We can all jump to our own conclusions. It is definitely curious as to why it happened. I think it's kind of neat that we have both a boy and girl version of Plum. This is what inspired my whole "Boys -n- Berries" custom doll series <3 All in all my favorite character is Plum Puddin'. He is the name sake of my studio after all :)
After about a 3 year hiatus I am back to continue creating new doll and doll related goodies. I ran into a slump back in 2020 when the whole Covid thing was happening. We all got sick in our home. That sickness lingered for over 6 months. It hit me particularly hard. It was a very dark and discouraging time for me. I was not feeling well for what seemed to be a never-ending amount of time. I stayed as active as I could on the Shortcake groups and pages, but felt very unmotivated to do creative things. It was a very difficult time for me. My husband lost him Mother to Covid that same span of time. I had lost my father to Altheimer's in early 2019 also. Prior to that it was very stressful for the family because of the Altheimer's. He wasn't himself at all and things got very complicated. After his death it was very emotionally taxing on all of us. It was a very excruciatingly difficult and lengthy process. During all of that my husband and I had to try to keep it together and still make ends meet. Bills we still coming in as they usually do. Bills have no mercy, so we needed to keep working. It was hard to get over the mess and work it all out. Another thing that took place in this past year is that my Facebook page was compromised. My personal Facebook acct was hijacked by what seems to be a bot. It was deleted by Facebook and made it impossible for me to access my original Plum's Place Studio FB page and several other pages that I was an admin to. Although I have tried several times to recover it, it has been a useless effort. I do still have my Plum's Place Studio Pinterest, Deviant Art, and Instagram accts. Needless to say, I was very busy with not much time for my dollies and all of the drama life was throwing at me left me uninspired and plan ole sad.. Spring forward to today, May. 16, 2023, I have a new situation. I feel much brighter. I am very happy that even though I went through that dark time in my life, the clouds slowly became brighter, and the silver lining appeared. I was able to survive it thanks to the Good Lord above, who without His love and mercy I would be a total mess right now, lol. I have my handy ideas notebook in hand and am ready to move forward. I am also working on some berry new ideas. Right now, I have some berry nice outfits I will be creating for the berry kids. They are called Newberry Wear. They will be a sort of special extra wardrobe for the Berry Kids that are made specifically to the style and colors of each character. It isn't fully developed, but it in the works. So far I have created this romper for Angelcake. It's a play outfit for her to run around in the yard when she doesn't want to get her pretty dress dirty. I'm glad to tell my story today. It is very hard sometimes to express inside stuff to the outside world about myself, but I think you guys are so kind and thoughtful. Many of you have checked up on me throughout the years. I truly appreciate your concern and kind gesture. Thank you for staying along for the ride. It will be fun now :)<3 This cute little boy was the next Boys -n- Berries doll that I was inspired to make. It was so much fun coming up with the color concept and picking out the fabrics for him. I wanted his pet to tie in with the girl version of her, so a Caterpillar seemed to be the perfect little critter for him. Bug and pre-butterfly. I took some pictures of Tang before i painted him. Tang was a yummy powdered drink mix we used to drink all the time in the late 70's and early 80's. I don't know how popular it is today, but back then it was all the rage. You can visit his full album at : http://www.plumsplace.com/custom-orangeblossom-boy.html * He has been claimed and adopted . This Custom Leia Berry Organic doll is the newest member of my little Star Berries World. I had no idea how I was going to pull her off. I just knew that I wanted to create her with the buns and would not accept "it's not possible to do that" for an answer. I had to do a bunch of research about her outfit. I created patterns from scratch for her Dress , Hood ,Belt and Boots. Not to mention the hours it took to get her hair buns to look "Just So". Major mission indeed ! The photo shoot was so much fun. I was able to try some new ideas with backgrounds and lighting. I took a few snap shots of my early attempts of working out her hair cinnamon buns style. I have added the images below. You can imagine how much fun it must have been for dear late Carrie Fisher to have to come into work 2 hours early just to style her hair. It took me much longer, lol. You can get a human to cooperate for a hair-do, but dollies are a bit more fussy because they won't sit still when you need them too, LOL. True Story. But we worked things out. I promised her I would make her look fabulous and eventually she did.....
This cute little guy was inspired by my desire to see more boys in Strawberryland. After Plum was changed into a girl we were left with only dear Huckleberry. He needs some pals to hang out with. This is where the boy version of T.N. Honey came to mind. I have plans to make the other Strawberryland characters into boy versions as well. One by one. I'm not replacing the girls with boys though. I am just making a boy version of each character. This is an idea I have had for so many years. I'm so glad to finally have the time to make it happen at last. Hope you like my take on what a boy T.N. Honey might look like. I may create more of T.N. Honey as a boy with different variations of hats and outfits. This can get super fun and creative. Thanks for coming along for the ride <3...
He can be found at the following link, Ebay auction ends on Monday August. 27, 2018 at 10 pm https://www.ebay.com/itm/183393929822 * This doll is already adopted. He was created for my own personal collection.
I have always admired this outfit from the book "The Adventures of Strawberry Shortcake and Her Friends" by Mercedes Llimona. It is so fun to finally have my own Plum Puddin' Boy doll. I have two versions. I'm going to be making outfits for him. I will be making more of these for sale later on. The hat was made a little different that the book version only because I am fond on this specific hat style. The actual hat in the book does not have a brim on the hat. There will be both version of this hat soon, as I plan on making the actual hat for him as well. Hope you like him <3 I'm working on some new dollies. Completing some of the final commission dolls I had promised. They are coming out so cute! I will be sharing more updates as I get closer to finishing all of these customs. There are a few surprise dolls coming. I'm berry excited to share once it is possible. I have so many ideas for dolls that I have been holding off on doing. They are going to start being created now. Now is the time and they are coming sooner than expected. Updates will continue to be added to our FB page as well as or Instagram. Stay tuned :)
I wanted to invite you to tag along on my doll making adventures. I will be sharing my progress on dolls as they come along. This blog is just for fun. I will post images and videos here as well about customs, Shortcake items and personal things I want to share about my everyday life. This blog will also become whatever it develops into. I do not have any specific purpose for it yet, except for fun and sharing. Hope you enjoy :)
